- 1976 — Whitfield Diffie and Martin Hellman publish “New Directions in Cryptography,” inventing public-key cryptography and key exchange and putting encryption within reach of civilians rather than states alone. (New Directions in Cryptography)

- 1996 — In the Bernstein litigation, Judge Marilyn Hall Patel’s district-court rulings begin treating encryption source code as speech and questioning the export-licensing regime as prior restraint. (Bernstein v. United States (1999))

The Road to Digital Cash
The cryptographic lineage that led to Bitcoin — from Chaum’s blinded tokens through the proof-of-work and digital-money proposals of the cypherpunks to a working peer-to-peer currency and its settlement layer. Each entry links to the reference page for that work.

- 2009 — January: Satoshi releases the first Bitcoin software (v0.1), moving the design from paper to a running peer-to-peer network. (Satoshi Nakamoto)

From the Gold Standard to Bitcoin
The monetary arc the wiki’s Austrian sources trace: money leaves political control under the classical gold standard, is dismantled in stages across the twentieth century into pure fiat, and is answered in the twenty-first by a fixed-supply digital money. - 1870s — The classical gold standard matures: major currencies are defined as fixed weights of gold, exchange rates are fixed by arithmetic, and trade imbalances correct automatically — money largely outside political control. (The Gold Standard)
- 1913 — The United States adopts the Federal Reserve System — the last major nation to take up central banking — an outcome the wiki’s Austrian sources trace to the secret 1910 Jekyll Island drafting session rather than the official lender-of-last-resort story. (Federal Reserve)
- 1929 — The Wall Street crash opens the Great Depression, which Rothbard reads as the unavoidable correction of the credit inflation the Fed engineered through the 1920s. (Great Depression)
